Annette Funicello (October 22, 1942- April 8, 2013)
Happy Birthday, Mary Pickford (April 8th, 1892 - May 29th, 1979)
“I think Oscar Wilde wrote a poem about a robin who loved a white rose. He loved it so much that he pierced his breast and let his heart’s blood turn the white rose red. Maybe this sounds very sentimental, but for anybody who has loved a career as much as I’ve loved mine, there can be no short cuts.”
Josephine Baker born Freda Josephine McDonald in St. Louis, Missouri- June 3rd, 1906.
Happy Birthday to the beautiful and ever so talented Veronica Lake!
November 14th 1922 - July 7th 1973
“There’s no doubt I was a bit of a misfit in the Hollywood of the forties. The race for glamour left me far behind. I didn’t really want to keep up. I wanted my stardom without the usual trimmings. Because of this, I was branded a rebel at the very least. But I don’t regret that for a minute. My appetite was my own and I simply wouldn’t have it any other way.”
She deserves to be remembered and loved - I don’t care whose photos are featured, but so far there is *nothing* for her in Vintage or Film - her hairstyle and legacy are just as important as Louise Brooks (in fact, much more iconic to me personally) - please show some respect for her, editors. She deserves it. Get something up for her in Explore - Hollywood swept her aside, please don’t do it here. It’s shameful.
